The archeological site of Chichen Itza is situated in the Yucatan Peninsula / in the state of Yucatan in Mexico.

- The only source for water came from sinkholes (cenotes). Two big cenotes on the site made it a good place to make a city for the Itzá (a Maya tribe). “Chi” means “mouths”. “Chen” means “Wells”. Chichén Itzá was found.
- One of the major buildings in Chichen Itza is the well known pyramid of 79 feet ( 24 meters) high: El Castillo (The castle). Each of the 4 sides of the pyramid has 91 steps. When you include 1 step at the top these steps combine a total of 365 steps, exactly the days of a year.
- The Chichen Itza ball court (for the game pok ta pok) is the largest in the Americas. It is 545 feet / 166 meters long.
